Chilean Roberto ‘Erde’ Lobos Becomes VALORANT World Champion with LOUD at 18, Dedicates Title to His Late Mother

Chile has a new reason to celebrate in esports, because Roberto “erde” Lobos, at just 18 years old, became the first Chilean to win the VALORANT world championship, after LOUD defeated Team Vitality 3-1 in the Grand Final of VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026. Additionally, erde was chosen the youngest MVP in the history of the tournament, in a crowning that carried an enormous emotional weight, as the player competed throughout the championship after his mother’s death, which occurred just two days before LOUD’s debut.

With this result, LOUD lifted the circuit’s most important trophy four years after their 2022 title in Istanbul, and became the first organization to win the Champions twice. Aachievement even more striking when you consider that in 2025 the team finished last in Americas Stages 1 and 2, and arrived at this Champions as Stage 2 runners-up, behind 100 Thieves.

This is how the final unfolded when erde was crowned world champion

The Grand Final had all the ingredients of a world-defining match. LOUD struck first on Summit, where they overturned a significant deficit to win 13-11, while Team Vitality answered back on Lotus with a 13-8 to level the series. The team regained control on Sunset with a convincing 13-5 victory and, finally, on Haven they held the advantage in the decisive moments to close the map at 13-10 and seal the 3-1 final, repeating the win they had already taken from Vitality in the group stage.

For the European team, the defeat tasted particularly bitter, since, although it was their best result in a Champions, their player Timofey “Chronicle” Khromov became the first to reach three finals of the tournament and lose them all. Additionally, Europe was left without the title again, after the Americas also claimed the crown in 2025.

Who is erde, the Chilean who made history in VALORANT

Before becoming world champion as erde, Roberto Lobos joined Leviatán’s academy in June 2022, at just 14 years old, and in 2025 he was part of the team that won both splits of the Challengers of Latin America South. That performance drew the attention of LOUD, which signed him for the 2026 season, though he had to wait until turning 18, on February 12, to debut with the main squad.

Since then, he has transformed into the leader inside LOUD’s gameplay, the one responsible for directing the team’s strategies in every round, and his level was such that in Brazil they began calling him “the boy of the prophecy.” At 18 years and 8 months, he became the youngest MVP in the history of the Champions, surpassing Erick “aspas” Santos, who was 19 years and 3 months old when he won the award with LOUD in 2022. In the tournament he totaled 310 kills across 18 maps, playing mainly with Omen and Sage, and in the Grand Final he finished with 66 kills and a positive differential of 10.

A crowning achievement with a Latin American stamp

The squad with which erde became world champion consisted of Brazilians Lucca “lukxo” Travaioli and Enzo “tkzin” Zimiani, the Portuguese David “DaviH” Cruz, the Colombian Sebastián “Darker” Castro Cicuamia, and the Chilean Roberto “erde” Lobos, and they became the youngest to reach a Champions final. For all its members it was their first world title, and the campaign held special meaning for Chile and Colombia, since erde and Darker became the first players from their countries to win the Champions, while DaviH was the first Portuguese to compete in the tournament. tkzin, who joined on loan from KRÜ midway through the season, also left his mark with the first triple ace in a single Champions series, achieved in the debut against EDG. Before the final, lukxo had summarized the team’s spirit with a phrase, originally in English, that The Spike picked up: “one day you could be you, believe.”

The title also had Argentine representation, as Gonzalo “Romanilly” Manzano was part of the coaching staff that accompanied the roster during its campaign. For Latin America, the triumph is a new opportunity to celebrate the region’s talent, which competes and wins on esports’ biggest stages. Furthermore, the Grand Final served as a showcase for Riot to present Hush, the new VALORANT agent, a duelist who will arrive in the game soon.

But the most emotional moment came after lifting the trophy. In the on-stage interview, just crowned, erde revealed that he had played the entire tournament after his mother’s death, who had been fighting an illness for some time, and he dedicated his world championship title to her with words, originally in English, that were picked up by Strafe. “I want to dedicate this victory to my mom. She died two days before the match against EDG. I couldn’t believe it, because I thought her treatment was going very well. I dedicate this tournament to her. I only play for her,” said the Chilean, in a line that circulated around the esports world and that makes his title much more than a record.
