The classic Nintendo Wii soccer game, known as Mario Strikers Charged, can be enjoyed directly on Windows, Linux, macOS, and the Steam Deck thanks to Recharged, a community-made port that brings Mario Strikers Charged to PC without emulation and completely free. It is the title that Next Level Games released in 2007, one of the most fondly remembered multiplayer games on that console, now capable of running in 4K with far smoother performance than on the original hardware.
It is a project that leverages the game’s reconstructed code from the decompilation project ms Charged-decomp to compile a native program for each platform, preserving the physics, the rules, and the pace of the Wii’s original matches, while adding compatibility with 4K resolutions, unlocked FPS, support for keyboard, mouse, and modern controllers, along with options to tailor graphics and gameplay to each player’s taste.
Mario Strikers Charged for PC with 4K graphics and unlimited FPS
In case you weren’t aware, Mario Strikers Charged is an arcade-style soccer game starring characters from the Mario universe, renowned for its aggressive play style, its special powers, its trap-filled stadiums, and its frenetic matches with loose rules, where Mega Strikes can swing a game in seconds.
And in this new PC adaptation, the game renders the 3D at your screen’s resolution instead of Wii’s 640×448, so it can run at 1080p, 1440p, and up to 4K, adapting to widescreen or 4:3 aspect ratios, with a 4x anti-aliasing system that smooths edges and delivers a much cleaner image.
All of this was achieved by disassembling and reconstructing the game’s original code without using emulation software, allowing the port to run smoothly and natively, with graphical improvements, customization options, and compatibility with modern controls.
Moreover, the frame rate is boosted to allow playing at 120 FPS, 144 FPS, at your monitor’s refresh rate, or with fully unlocked frames per second, without speeding up the actual match pace, and using DirectX 12 or Vulkan on Windows, Vulkan on Linux, and Metal on macOS.
As for input, keyboard and mouse support is included, where the mouse acts as the Wii controller’s pointer, and support for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch Pro controllers, and the GameCube adapter, in addition to the ability to connect the original Wii Remotes with Nunchuk via Bluetooth or with a Mayflash DolphinBar.
The Mario Strikers Charged PC port retains all offline modes, such as Road to the Striker Cup, Domination, Strikers 101, and the Hall of Fame, along with cheats, videos, and saved games. From the launcher you can unlock all content, skip the intro, or disable Mega Strikes, while the default-enabled option Fair ball contests balances the split balls so that the home team does not dominate. As if that weren’t enough, the port fixes three bugs from the original game.
Multiplayer matches and step-by-step installation guide
The game supports matches with up to four players on a single computer, mixing keyboard, mouse, controllers, and Wii Remotes on the same machine or across opposing teams. Although online multiplayer is not available at the moment due to Nintendo Wi‑Fi Connection’s closure, the developers assure that they are working on rebuilding network features and on matchmaking and lobby options for the future.

To play Mario Strikers Charged on PC you need a graphics driver compatible with Vulkan or DirectX 12 on Windows, Vulkan on Linux, or Metal on macOS, in addition to your own copy of the game in .iso, .rvz, or .wbfs formats, since the port does not include any game files. Only the US and European versions are supported, while the Japanese and Korean versions are not yet compatible. For installation, follow the procedure below.
- Visit the Recharged download page on GitHub and download the file for your operating system, for example windows-x86_64.zip on Windows.
- Extract the file into a separate folder.
- Open recharged.exe, or Recharged.app on macOS, to access the launcher.
- In the launcher, add the folder where you have the game image or select it directly, and the program will verify that the version is compatible.
- Configure the resolution, graphics API, FPS, and controls in the Controls section, assigning players from 1 to 4.
- Press Play to start playing.
If you own a Steam Deck, the project provides a special guide on its GitHub that also adds the game to your Steam library. Additionally, the launcher notifies you when new versions are available and updates only if you approve it.
To finish, it’s clear that Recharged revives this emblematic arcade soccer game by turning it into a native PC port, standing out for its 4K graphics, its unlimited FPS, and its local four-player multiplayer, all without emulation. While online mode is still on the way, it’s the perfect excuse to bring friends around the computer and relive the wildest matches in the Mushroom Kingdom.
