Free Bloodborne PC Port Adds Real-Time Shadows, Enhanced Lighting, and Up to 120 FPS

The creator known as fromsoftserve recently released version 1.10 of Bloodborne PC Remaster, a mod designed to refresh the graphical look of this PlayStation exclusive beloved by players who have always dreamed of playing it on their PCs. That dream came true unofficially thanks to the community-made Bloodborne port, which reaches up to 120 FPS, and now both projects run together for the first time.

And the truth is that a group of enthusiasts achieved a historic milestone for the community by merging a comprehensive graphics-improvement package with a dedicated tool to run Bloodborne on Windows-based machines. Thanks to the tireless work of the modders, players can now enjoy the game with enhanced textures, improved lighting, more realistic shadows, and support for modern technologies such as DLSS, in addition to keyboard and mouse controls.

The Bloodborne PC Remaster Mod Works with the Free Bloodborne Port

For those who weren’t aware, the most striking aspect of the progress is that the mod was demonstrated running in tandem with Bloodborne Launcher 0.9.3, a fan-made utility that enables playing the game on Windows PCs while leveraging modern technologies like NVIDIA DLSS and options for online play with others.

All of this runs on the PC without needing the shadPS4 emulator, though its author describes it as “native, more or less.” In a post on X, originally in English, fromsoftserve asserted that the tool is “easily the best ‘native’ port so far,” with “great performance,” a DLSS that “works well,” a “great” UI, lots of options and online play.

Although this does not in any way mean that FromSoftware or PlayStation have released an official PC version, the community celebrates these advances as a huge milestone for enjoying this title on modern hardware. The Bloodborne PC Remaster mod includes deep visual changes, such as dynamic shadows across the entire game, improved lighting on lanterns and candles, higher-quality textures, better reflections, and three-dimensional relief on the floor and walls.

Meanwhile, the program created within the community project provides compatibility to use a keyboard and mouse, console controls, and several image-scaling methods such as DLSS, FSR, and DLAA. Furthermore, to reproduce this demonstration with maximum stability, it is recommended to use version 0.9.3 of the program, because newer versions might not be fully adapted to the mod’s visual improvements, although they add features like HDR, bloodstains and notes from other online players, and a cheats menu.

Preparation of files and step-by-step installation

To play on your PC, it is essential that you use your own legally extracted files from a PS4, with the game updated to version 1.09. There is no magical Windows tool that automatically converts a disc or a console file, so the extraction process must be performed correctly.

The ultimate test to determine if the extraction was done correctly is to look for a key file named eboot.bin inside the resulting folders. If someone only has a decrypted PKG file, they will not be able to continue, and it is recommended to avoid downloading files from unknown sites for security reasons.

Once you have the files ready, here are the steps to install the program and the mod.

  1. Download the BloodbornePC-0.9.3-win64.zip file from the project’s version page on GitHub.
  2. Unzip it into a simple, straightforward folder on your drive, for example in a folder named BloodbornePC inside a Games folder. Do not run the game from the compressed file or extract the executable from its folder, because it needs all its supporting files to work.
  3. Open the program and point it to the exact folder where the eboot.bin file is located.
  4. Do an initial test with the game without mods, using a standard resolution and a moderate framerate, to confirm that it opens without issues.
  5. Download the main 1.10 version of Bloodborne PC Remaster from its Nexus Mods page and save it in a separate folder.
  6. Create a full backup of the working game folder.
  7. Copy the mod folders over the game’s dvdroot_ps4 folder, accept replacing existing files, and keep the folder structure intact.

Visual Setup, Controls, and Game Verification

Although the program offers an automatic feature to manage modifications, it is recommended to follow the manual method, as advised by the mod’s author.

With the improvement pack installed, it is time to reopen the program to adjust the graphics and controls to each user’s liking. Those with NVIDIA RTX graphics cards can enable DLSS or DLAA, a technology that smooths image edges with AI without lowering the resolution, while users with other cards can try AMD FSR.

It is suggested to first test the game’s stability with a fixed frame rate before unlocking it. Although the free Bloodborne port can reach up to 120 FPS, the mod adds load by introducing shadows and lighting, so the result will depend entirely on each system’s power. Likewise, the system allows configuring the buttons for those who prefer keyboard and mouse or their usual controllers.

Thus, and to finish, these are the final steps to verify that everything is working correctly.

  1. Start the game and travel to a well-lit area, such as Yharnam’s streets.
  2. Observe the details on the walls, the floors, and the lamp shadows to verify that the mod is active.
  3. Test the fluidity of the character’s movement and the responsiveness of the configured buttons.
  4. If the game crashes or doesn’t open after installation, restore the backup you saved.
  5. If you use online features, note that they work on fan-managed servers, not connected to PlayStation’s official online network.
