Free PC Port of inFAMOUS Second Son: PS4 Exclusive Arrives 12 Years After Launch, No Emulator Needed

The wave of unofficial PC ports of PlayStation exclusives grows once more, and this time the release comes from one of the most requested titles by PC players. The port of inFAMOUS Second Son is now available for free download, the superpowers adventure from Sucker Punch that launched in 2014 for PS4, which never received an official PC version, even though the same studio did bring Ghost of Tsushima to PC in 2024. This marks the first port of the game that runs without an emulator and that anyone can download, created by HayatoG, the same developer who recently released the PC port of The Last Guardian.

Just like that project, the program runs the game’s original code directly on the processor, without emulating the console, while the PS4 system functions have been rewritten and the graphics are translated to Vulkan with the shadPS4 video core. In addition, it builds on the work of other ports such as Bloodborne and God of War III, and it works on Windows and Linux, including the Steam Deck.

What the inFAMOUS Second Son Port Offers

According to its creator, the game is already playable with boot, save, interface and audio functioning, and unlike other ports, the sound does not require copying files from the console’s system. It is compatible with DualSense, DualShock 4, Xbox and 8BitDo controllers, with real support for the gyroscope in PlayStation controllers, which the game uses to paint graffiti, and on other controllers it can be simulated with L3 and R3.

From its launcher you can choose the language, adjust the dead zones of the sticks, enable a faster graphics precision mode and clear the shader cache, while inside the game the Insert key opens its own menu and F10 shows the FPS counter.

That said, it’s important to note that this is an early version. For now, performance is unstable, with between 20 and 30 FPS on an RTX 2060, while in the video shared by Senhor Linguiça, recorded by Christo Gevedjov, the game runs at around 36 FPS. Additionally, stutters appear the first time certain effects load, fog, water and light effects flicker, and the Windows version has not yet been tested in-game, because its creator tested it on Linux.

Therefore, if you’re seeking the best experience today, the most stable option remains playing inFAMOUS Second Son with shadPS4, which on capable systems can reach 60 FPS in 4K. It’s worth noting that there is another emulator-free port shown by YouTuber Keep Tryin at 60 FPS, but that version still cannot be downloaded.

Requirements and How to Install It

To play it you need 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, or Linux with SteamOS 3.6, Ubuntu 24.04 or Fedora 40 or newer, a graphics card compatible with Vulkan 1.3, ideally with 6 GB of VRAM, and about 33 GB of free space. The package does not include game files, so you’ll need your own copy of inFAMOUS Second Son from PS4, in the US version CUSA00223 with update 1.07, extracted from a console with GoldHEN.

Once you have everything ready, just follow these steps.

  1. From your PS4 with GoldHEN, use the application Itemzflow to copy the game (CUSA00223) and its update 1.07 to a USB drive formatted as exFAT.
  2. On your computer, copy the base game folder and then overwrite it with the update folder, replacing the files.
  3. Visit the port’s GitHub page, open the Releases section and download the file infamous-windows-x86_64.zip, or infamous-linux-x86_64.tar.gz if you are using Linux or a Steam Deck.
  4. Extract the file into a folder on your computer.
  5. Open the inFAMOUS Second Son launcher, select the game folder and the language, and press Play.

Thus, with the inFAMOUS Second Son port, HayatoG adds his second PlayStation exclusive to PC in less than a week, and although it still lacks the performance to compete with emulation, it marks a huge first step toward letting Delsin Rowe’s adventure be playable on computers without relying on emulation.
