Nintendo Switch 2 Exclusives Now Run on PC and Mac, Featuring Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Splatoon Raiders, Just Days After Jailbreak

What Nintendo feared most began sooner than expected, because just days after ns2jb, the first jailbreak of the console, which runs on system version 23.0.1, Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games start to run on PC and Mac, with Mario Kart World as the first to complete a race outside the console, thanks to a modified version of nxnative that translates the system functions and Nintendo’s NVN2 graphics to their Mac equivalents, while Donkey Kong Bananza and Splatoon Raiders begin to boot on computers.

That said, these are the very early steps of still-developing projects, since Mario Kart World still shows graphics glitches and parts of the stage that do not appear, the PC games only reach the home screen, and the jailbreak has to be run again every time the console restarts, so no one can play them yet at home and there is nothing to download, although the progress is so rapid that outlets like VideoCardz describe it as the start of Nintendo’s worst nightmare.

How it all began with the Nintendo Switch 2 jailbreak

The first Nintendo Switch 2 jailbreak, which was reported a few days ago by researcher Sammy Hajhamid, known as pepsipu, and which according to Tech Insider was created in just two weeks with the help of Codex, OpenAI’s artificial intelligence, and runs on the system version 23.0.1.

This jailbreak allows executing its own code on the console with the same permissions as some of its internal modules, which opened the door to reading files that were previously blocked, and with a separate tool, created by user Kurumuz, games and system files on the console began to be extracted.

That said, it still has significant limitations, since it does not grant full access to the system nor extract the console’s encryption keys, and it must be run again each time it reboots, while Nintendo’s sole known response was to remove from the eShop the game used as the entry point for the hack.

Mario Kart World, the first Nintendo Switch 2 game to run outside the console

The first case was shown on October 27 by emulator developer Will Faust, who posted on X a video of Mario Kart World running on macOS, and then another showing the game functioning even on an iPhone 18 Pro.

To achieve this, Faust used a modified version of nxnative to which he added his own work, especially to enable NVN2, the Nintendo Switch 2 graphics system, and to translate the console’s functions to their equivalents on Apple hardware, rather than imitating the full console as a traditional emulator does.

According to Wccftech, the game still has graphics glitches, distinct shadows and parts of the stage that do not appear, but its performance is stable enough to complete a race without many issues, and Faust himself hinted that an iPhone version could arrive, while leaving open the possibility that someone else could bring it to Windows.

What nxnative is

nxnative is an open-source project created by user seedds, which converts Nintendo Switch games into apps for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, without a traditional emulator, replacing only the parts of Nintendo’s system itself and adapting the graphics to Metal, Apple’s graphics technology.

According to Digital Trends, the project has tested more than 60 Switch games, such as Super Mario Odyssey, Metroid Dread, and Monster Hunter Rise, some even at 60 FPS, although each user must own their own game files and console keys, and online play and amiibo do not work yet.

Donkey Kong Bananza and Splatoon Raiders boot up on PC

This is how each Nintendo Switch 2 game is starting to run outside the console

On PC the progress is one step behind, since according to Centro Leaks, Donkey Kong Bananza would be running on a computer, although for now only a single image was shared and there’s no video of a match, and everything suggests this would be a port/repackaging project.

Later, Centro Leaks showed on October 28 that Splatoon Raiders boots up on PC, though they clarified that this is very early work, with many fixes and a lot of work still required before it can be played.

Adding to this, Axiom, an emulator published on GitHub that bills itself as the “first Switch 2 emulator”, and which according to its own developer is able to boot Mario Kart World, though he acknowledges it still needs work on performance and audio before release.

Can you download anything?

For now, there is no public version to try these Nintendo Switch 2 games, since Will Faust has confirmed he will not publish his project’s code, while Axiom remains in development and the Donkey Kong Bananza and Splatoon Raiders projects have shown nothing for download.

Therefore, it’s wise to be cautious with sites offering to download a “Mario Kart World for PC,” because according to iTechGuides these are fake versions that can be dangerous, and you’re advised not to download anonymous files, keys, or ROMs, and never enter your Nintendo account details in unofficial installers.

Nintendo’s reaction

So far, Nintendo has said nothing about these advances, but everything occurs amid the company’s ongoing campaign against this kind of project, since in recent weeks it started removing various ports of its games from GitHub, so it wouldn’t be surprising if these projects encounter legal trouble as they progress.
